The Scribbly Gum Quilt Co Story

Scribbly Gum Quilt Co began in 2020, born from a desire for beautifully curated fabric bundles that reflected her own aesthetic. Founded by Jodie of Joz Makes Quilts, it started in the wardrobe of her Bondi home, then quickly took over the guest room, and eventually grew into a small retail space in the charming town of Bundanoon, NSW.

During those early days, Jodie had a wonderful customer named Dee. Over months of lockdowns and quilt-making, a friendship grew over Instagram DMs, and before long, Dee was working remotely with Jodie to help bring Scribbly Gum to life.

In 2022, Jodie relocated the business to Melbourne and, ready to return to the corporate world, decided to focus more on designing quilt patterns and personal projects. With Dee’s shared aesthetic, deep love for Scribbly Gum (and half the shop already in her stash!), it felt only natural for Dee to take over the reins later that year.

By 2023, Scribbly Gum had taken over Dee’s lounge room, then moved into a warehouse, then a bigger one, and eventually it was time to downsize again. Around that time, Jodie realised just how much she missed it all, so in 2024, Scribbly Gum Quilt Co v3 was born with Jodie and Dee back together as partners, collaborating once more and bringing things full circle.

Now, we’re returning to our roots with a smaller, carefully curated collection focused on fabric bundles, quilt kits, and the joy of making.

And if you’ve ever wondered about the name, the Scribbly Gum is a beautiful Australian eucalyptus tree, known for the whimsical “scribbles” etched across its bark. Those markings reminded Jodie of free-motion quilting, the organic lines that tell a story, and so, Scribbly Gum Quilt Co was named.
