About
The Scribbly Gum Quilt Co Story
Scribbly Gum Quilt Co began in 2020, founded by Jodie of Joz Makes Quilts. What started as a search for beautifully curated fabric bundles that reflected her own style quickly grew into something much bigger. From a wardrobe in her Bondi home, Scribbly Gum soon expanded into the guest room before eventually finding its way to a charming retail space in Bundanoon, NSW.
Along the way, Jodie had a customer named Dee. Through countless Instagram messages, quilt chats, and the shared experience of navigating lockdowns with a sewing project never too far away, a friendship formed. Before long, Dee was helping behind the scenes, working remotely alongside Jodie and becoming part of the Scribbly Gum story.
In 2022, Jodie relocated the business to Melbourne and began focusing more on quilt pattern design and personal creative projects. With a shared love of fabric, a very similar aesthetic, and what was probably already an alarming amount of Scribbly Gum fabric in her own stash, Dee stepped in to take over the business later that year.
Like many small businesses, Scribbly Gum has evolved over time. It started in Dee's lounge room, expanded into a warehouse, then a larger warehouse, before eventually returning to its roots. Today, Scribbly Gum Quilt Co focuses on thoughtfully curated fabric bundles, quilt kits, and beautiful fabrics chosen to inspire your next project.
And if you've ever wondered about the name, the Scribbly Gum is a uniquely Australian eucalyptus tree known for the whimsical markings etched across its bark. Those winding lines reminded Jodie of free-motion quilting—organic, imperfect, and full of character—and Scribbly Gum Quilt Co was born.
