Every now and then I get a lovely message asking for the full list of fabrics used in one of my curated quilt bundles. And honestly, I totally get the curiosity. If you’re a fabric lover (which… same), it’s natural to want to know the details.

Sometimes people ask for the list for really practical reasons too. They might be overseas and worried about postage, unsure if I ship internationally at all, or wondering if they could source the same fabrics locally for less. All very fair questions, so I wanted to touch on that as well.

So here’s a little behind the scenes look at why I don’t provide individual fabric lists and more importantly, what you’re actually getting when you buy a curated bundle from Scribbly Gum Quilt Co.

The curation is the product

When you buy one of my bundles, you’re not just buying a stack of pretty fabrics. You’re buying the time, the eye, the trial and error, the rearranging, the “almost but not quite” piles, and the final yes, this feels right moment that goes into pulling a colour story together.

The best way I can explain it is with a comparison. Think about buying a bouquet from a florist. You’re not just paying for individual stems, you’re paying for the balance of colour, texture and mood, and the way everything has been thoughtfully arranged into something cohesive and beautiful. Or like ordering a signature dish from a chef. Sure, you could list the ingredients, but the real magic is in how they’re chosen and combined.

That’s exactly how I think about my quilt bundles. The fabrics matter, of course, but the value is in how they work together.

A quick note on pricing & shipping (especially for overseas friends)

If you’re outside Australia and thinking, “This bundle is beautiful, but shipping might be wild”, I hear you. Postage is always a factor, especially for international orders.

A little reassurance: my pricing is kept as reasonable and comparative as I can make it, and I offer flat rate overseas shipping so there are no nasty surprises at checkout. In most cases, once you factor in time, effort and the curation itself, buying the bundle works out pretty comparable to sourcing everything individually, and a whole lot easier.

What happens if I share the full fabric list

If I share the exact fabric breakdown, it becomes very easy for bundles to be copied. That might not seem like a big deal on the surface, but for a small business like mine, the curation itself is the bread and butter of what I do. It’s the part I’ve spent years refining.

Sharing the full list would mean giving away the core creative work behind the product — and that’s not something I can sustainably do and still keep creating new, thoughtfully curated bundles for you.

The curation is part of the service you’re paying for but at no extra charge

When you purchase a bundle, part of what you’re paying for is the service of having that curation done for you. You’re paying for the hours of pulling fabrics, testing combinations, tweaking colour balance, and making sure the mix feels cohesive and quilt worthy.

There is no extra fee for the curation itself. You’re just paying for the fabrics in the bundle. The time, experience and care that goes into pulling everything together is something I include as part of the service. That said, the curation is still the core of the product and my business.

If I provide the full fabric list before purchase, I’m essentially offering that service for free and that’s not really fair to the work that goes into it (or the business that keeps the lights on).

Most bundles are limited (and that’s part of the magic)

Most of my bundles are created in limited numbers. I’m often working with small runs of fabrics, collections that change over time or the obstacle of getting fabrics to Australia quickly, which means once a bundle sells out, that exact combination usually won’t be repeated.

I know that can feel a bit “oh no, I missed out” and I never want that to feel discouraging. If you do miss a bundle you loved, please feel free to take inspiration from it. Screenshot it, save it, use the colour story as a starting point when pulling from your stash or shopping elsewhere. I love seeing how people interpret and reimagine a palette in their own way.

The bundles themselves might be limited, but the ideas behind them are always there for you to use and enjoy.
